Note 1: The death location, "At Fort Ord" is based on the best information available at this time. In the case of PFC Contes, this location was estimated on:

A. Fort Ord California was the home of the 7th Infantry Division beginning on 1 July 1940. It has not been verified that PFC Contes was assigned to Fort Ord, or if he was at that location on temporary duty. In the absence of any conflicting information, it is therefore assumed that he was assigned to the 70th.

B. At the time PFC Contes died the 7th Infantry Division was located at Fort Ord during November 1942.

C. Hospital Admission Records indicate that PFC Contes was admitted to the Fort Ord hospital and died as a result of injuries caused by "cargo" on a "motor vehicle", possibly a truck and that shifting or falling cargo caused his fatal injuries.

D. Further information on the Fort Ord and the 7th Infantry Division can be found at the Wikipedia website 7th Infantry Division (United States).
