Washington Newspaper Report, October 12, 1943:
A Seattle newspaper reported that 1LT Erickson was killed in Colorado as a result of a B-24 Liberator crash. Two airmen, Captain Niels Chievitz from Minneapolis, Minnesota and SSgt. Robert B. Rue from Miami County, Ohio also died in the accident.
