Purple Heart Awarded to any member of the Armed Forces of the United States who,
while serving under competent authority in any capacity with one of the U.S. Armed Forces, after April 5, 1917,
has been wounded, killed, or who has died or may hereafter die of wounds received in action against an enemy
of the United States. It may also be awarded to any member of the Armed Forces who, before April 25, 1962,
was held as a prisoner of war and is wounded on or after that date while held as a prisoner of war..
Prisoner of War Medal Authorized for issue to any person who, while serving in any capacity with the Armed Forces, was taken prisoner and held captive after April 5, 1917.
American Defense Service Medal Awarded for service between September 8, 1939 and December 7, 1941 under orders to active duty for a period of 12 months or longer.
Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal Awarded for military service with the Asiatic-Pacific Theater between December 7, 1941 and March 2, 1946.
World War II Victory Medal Awarded for military service between December 7, 1941 and December 31, 1946, both dates inclusive.
T SGT James is believed to have entered the Army Air Corps from
Winston County, Alabama, Enlisting at Fort Bliss, El Paso Texas on September 9, 1940
and his loss is recorded in the
Alabama World War II Honor List of Dead and Missing,
page 27, Winston County,
published by the War Department in June 1946.
His name is listed on the American Battle Monuments Commission website.
