American Campaign Service Medal Awarded for military service within the American Theater between December 7, 1941 and March 2, 1946.
European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal Awarded for military service for service within the European-African-MiddleEastern Theater between December 7, 1941 and November 8, 1945.
World War II Victory Medal Awarded for military service between December 7, 1941 and December 31, 1946, both dates inclusive.
PFC Tyree was born January 22, 1924, son of Stella Tyree, 1900-1988. He entered the US Army
from Winston County, Alabama, Enlisting at Fort McClellan Alabama on December 28, 1943.
His loss is recorded in the
Alabama World War II Honor List of Dead and Missing,
page 27, Winston County,
published by the War Department in June 1946.
His name is not listed on the American Battle Monuments Commission website.
Note 1: The death location, "Near Muhlhausen, Germany" is based on the best information available at this time. In the case of PFC Thomas Tyree, this location was not verified by
eyewitness statement or official U.S. Army After Action Report. This location was estimated based on:
A. FindAGrave.com grave marker photo inscription "Alabama, PFC 44 ARMD INF BN, 6 ARMD DIV, WORLD WAR II" identifying his unit as the 44th Armored Infantry Battalion, 6th Armored Division.
B. 6th Armored Division records indicate the 6th Armored Division crossed the Rhine at Oppenheim on March 25, 1945, drove on to Frankfurt, crossed the Main, captured Bad Nauheim, and
continued to advance eastward, then surrounded and captured Muhlhausen on 4-5 April 1945.
