SGT John H. Boettcher was born October 24, 1922 in Winona, Minnesota
Son of John W. Boettcher and Frieda Ella Neumann Boettcher.

He married Helen J. Glenn Boettcher in Kitsap County on August 30, 1943.

There were no records found that would indicate John and Helen had children.

He enlisted into the US Army from Washington State.

His loss is recorded in the
Washington World War II Honor List of Dead and Missing, page 12, Pierce County,
published by the War Department in June 1946.

A. The American Battle Monuments Commission website identifies his assigned unit as the 572nd Bomber Squadron, 391st Bomber Group, Medium.

B. At the time SGT Boettcher was Killed In Action his aircraft was conducting a bombing mission over Germany and the American Air Museum in Britain website listing for his B-26 Marauder, 43-34337 states: "Failed to Return (FTR), [from] Germany."

C. MACR 12609, 43-34337. 24 Feb 1945 the 391st BOMBARDMENT GROUP website partial data as follows: B-26 Marauder, 43-34337 "NOTES: Tail Gunner - Box 1, low flight, no.1. 43-34337 received direct hit in left wing. Wing blown off. Aircraft went into spin."

D. Hospital Admission Records indicate that SGT Boettcher died during February 1945, as a result of unknown combat wounds.
