European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal Awarded for military service for service within the European-African-MiddleEastern Theater between December 7, 1941 and November 8, 1945.
Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal Awarded for military service with the Asiatic-Pacific Theater between December 7, 1941 and March 2, 1946.
World War II Victory Medal Awarded for military service between December 7, 1941 and December 31, 1946, both dates inclusive.

A. The Bureau of Naval Personnel lists "JOHNSON, Marvin W, LTJG, 224483, Mobile Explosives Investigation Unit 4, Okinawa Gunto operations, April 20, 1945, (CasCode121) killed in combat, dd April 20, 1945".
B. Alabama States Summary of War Casualties "JOHNSON, Marvin Winfred, Lt., (jg), USNR. Mother, Mrs. Lodie Adair, Rt. 1, Arley, Ala".
C. Newspaper clip, Unknown date "DEATH REPORTED - Lt. (jg) Marvin Winfred Johnson (above), USNR, has been reported killed in action in the Pacific, his mother, Mrs. J. A. Adair of Arley, was notified. Lt. Johnson attended Florence State Teachers College and later was graduated from A.P.I in Auburn. Previous to the Pacific assignment, he had served in the European theater".
The photo of the newspaper clip also had a document that identified his initial burial location as "Ie Shima Cemerery, Ryukyu Retto Japan".
