World War II Victory Medal Awarded for military service between December 7, 1941 and December 31, 1946, both dates inclusive.

The 5th Division saw its first combat action during the Battle of Iwo Jima, February 19 - March 26, 1945, it sustained the highest number of casualties of the three Marine divisions of the V Amphibious Corps.
