Purple Heart Awarded to any member of the Armed Forces of the United States who, while serving under competent authority in any capacity with one of the U.S. Armed Forces, after April 5, 1917, has been wounded, killed, or who has died or may hereafter die of wounds received in action against an enemy of the United States.
American Defense Service Medal Awarded for service between September 8, 1939 and December 7, 1941 under orders to active duty for a period of 12 months or longer.
American Campaign Service Medal Awarded for military service within the American Theater between December 7, 1941 and March 2, 1946.
Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal Awarded for military service with the Asiatic-Pacific Theater between December 7, 1941 and March 2, 1946.
World War II Victory Medal Awarded for military service between December 7, 1941 and December 31, 1946, both dates inclusive.


ACMMP Hewlett W. Beane was born in August 24, 1903 in Alabama
and enlisted in the US Navy on October 22, 1925.

He was married to Gladys Lazelia Bean and they had two children;
Patricia Beverly Beane, born in 1929 and Reginald Maxwell Beane born in 1930.

Next of Kin notified, Wife, Mrs. Gladys Lazelia Beane, McWilliams, Wilcox County, Alabama.

His loss is recorded in the
State Summary of War Casualties, Alabama,
page 2, Wilcox County,
published by the U.S Navy in February 1946.

His name is listed on the American Battle Monuments Commission (ABMC) website.

Note 1. The death location, "At Cavite Navy Yard, Philippines" is based on the following information from his DD Form 1330, Application For Headstone or Marker, and the Naval-History.net website, Last Names-B:

A. Application For Headstone or Marker, DD Form 1330, submitted by his sister, Mrs. Alpha Knight on March 26, 1962 for marker to be placed in Providence Cemetery, Calera, Ala: Block 5, Discharge Date states"12-11-41 Killed in Action." Block 9, Branch of Service, Company, Regiment, Division, states "On Ship, ACMM, Killed in Action, Lost at Sea."

B. The ABMC: "Hewlett Warren Beane, WWII, Service #2718216, Rank: Aviation Chief Machinist's Mate, U.S. Navy, Entered Service From: California, Date of Death: December 10, 1941, Status: Missing In Action, Memorialized: Walls of the Missing, Manila American Cemetery, Taguig City, Philippines, Awards: Purple Heart."
