the son of Walter F. Henderson and Minnie Ellen Watford Henderson.
He most likely inducted into the US Army from Wilcox County,
Alabama, Enlisting on November 26, 1942.

Two Alabamians Killed In Action - Two Alabamians recently reported killed in action in War Department announcements of casualties made through The Associated Press are Pfc. Walter C. Henderson, 23, of Pine Apple, and Pfc. John T. Bannister, 26, of Albertville.
 Pfc. Henderson was killed in France on Oct. 1, (1944), after seeing action in North Africa, Sicily, Italy and France. He had been in the service since December 1942. Surviving are his father, Walter F. Henderson, Pine Apple; and three sisters, Miss Nellie Henderson and Miss Minnie Henderson, of Pensacola, Fla., and Mrs. D. H. Campbell, of Seattle, Wash. Unknown Date in 1944

A. The OQMG Form 623 Application For Headstone Or Marker shows his assigned unit as the 15th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Infantry Division, date of birth as March 14, 1920 and date of death on October 1, 1944.

B. The location of his unit, the 3rd Infantry Division, was in both Southern and Northern France conducting operations from August to November 1944.

C. A local newspaper in late 1944 reported that he "...was killed in France on Oct. 1...".
