Roy D. Posey, 36, of Port Orchard, died Monday April 6, 1970 at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Reno, Nevada.
Mr. Posey and his family were visiting relatives in Babbitt, Nevada, for the Easter holidays when he was stricken. He had been suffering from a muscular disease for several years.
He was born on June 4, 1933, in Alberta, Canada, to Mr. and Mrs. Gregory Posey. The family came to Port Orchard in 1942, where they have resided since.
Mr. Posey grew up in the Port Orchard area and attended Givens Elementary School and South Kitsap High School. He worked in the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for a short period of time and then joined the U.S. Army in 1953.
Mr. Posey served in the Army during the Korean War and the Vietnam era. He received a medical discharge in 1967, concluding 14 years as a professional soldier.
During his military career he met the former Joann Robinson. The couple was married in 1956. After Mr. Posey's discharge the family returned to Port Orchard, where they have since resided.
He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans of Tacoma, Chapter 001.
He is survived by his wife, Joann, two sons and two daughters, all of the family home; five brothers, two living in Port Orchard, two living in Puyallup, and one living in Seattle; five sisters, one living in Port Orchard, two living in Illinois, one living in Puyallup, and one living in Harper; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert A. Pletcher of the Calvary Baptist Church in Bremerton officiating. Concluding services and burial will be held at the Sunset Lane Cemetery, Port Orchard.
